The federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau defines children with special health care needs (CSHCN) as those who “have or are at increased risk for chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional conditions and who also require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally.” (Medicaid.gov: the official U.S. government site for Medicare | Medicaid, n.d.)
Medicaid can cover treatments that are not covered by your private carrier and can help ease out-of-pocket medical costs.
